About Blood Bank

 Our Blood Bank supports Voluntary blood donation, rational use of blood components and promotes safe blood transfusions. The transfusion services are integrated with the healthcare system of the hospital and provide approximately 36,000 units of blood components annually. Use of blood products are optimized by 100% component separation and good inventory management through regular donor motivation and recruitment programs. A well-established rare donor registry is one of the major strengths of the department. Laboratory services include blood grouping, antibody screening and identification, pre-transfusion testing and range of immuno-hematological tests. Clinical services of the department include patient blood management, donor and therapeutic apheresis, transfusion support with special blood components such as leukodepleted, irradiated, washed and minor phenotype matched red blood cells. Massive transfusion protocol and TEG based component therapy is also offered by the unit. Hematopoietic stem cell collection form peripheral blood by apheresis technology has been started recently and transfusion medicine specialists are the part of the bone marrow transplantation team. Patients suffering from thalassemia, hemophilia, sickle cell disease and retroviral disease are provided blood free of cost.

Who can donate blood

People with good general health Anybody aged between 18 to 60 years Body weight be more than 50 kilograms Hemoglobin should be more than 12.5 gm

Did you know

One has around five liters of blood in body and can donate once in every three months up to 8% of blood volume without any complications.

Screening

Blood collected from you is screened for HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Malaria and syphilis.

Lost Plasma

Your body replaces lost plasma in 48 hrs and blood cells in 8 weeks. Blood donation does not bring any physical weakness.

Timings

Donors can come to the blood bank anytime between 7.00am to 7.00pm

Be a Special Donor

Donate apheresis platelets more frequently than whole blood donation at an interval of not more than twice in a week or more than 24 times in a year.
